Sejarah Suku Sumba

World Tribe ~ origin of the name of this tribe is specified may be derived dar humba word, which means “original”. sumba residents call themselves Tau Humba, or indigenous people who inhabit the island of Sumba. Their territory now covers West Sumba and East Sumba.

Languange Sumba Tribe

Language Sumba has some two dialects, namely West Sumba dialect called Meiwewa languages and dialects of East Sumba also called Kambera language. Meiwewa language consists of several dialects (sub dialect), which is a dialect Kodi, Wewewa West, East Wewewa, Waejewa, Laura and Walakaka. While Kambera language consists of several dialects (sub dialect), which is a dialect Manggikina, Manggarikuna and Kambera. Its population in 1960 of about 250,000 inhabitants, now around 381,000 inhabitants.

Livelihood Tribe Sumba

Sumba main livelihood is farming tribes in the fields and little in the fields and raising livestock like buffalo, cows, and horses. Sumba tribe is also famous for its traditional woven dikejakan livelihood as a sideline. Besides weaving goods from pandanus and bamboo, they also make jewelry from buffalo bone and horn, as well as equipment of iron.

Tribal Sumba

Settlement of Sumba are generally established in a hilly area by selecting a flat land as a central orientation ritual. Sumba society is divided into groups of spacious family (clan) they call kabihu. Marriages must be exogamy clan, because it formed a marriage alliance position, where there is kabihu whom it acts as a deterrent or a woman, and a woman or laija kabihu receiver. Status deterrent is considered higher than the laija indicated in indigenous ceremonies and rituals. Polygyny among the nobility were allowed.

Religion and Belief Sumba
