DAY 1: ARRIVE IN WAINGAPU – PRAILIU – WALAKIRI

Upon arrival at Waingapu Airport, East Sumba, we will be picked up by our tour guide and then transfer to the hotel to check in. In the afternoon we go to the popular village in East Sumba named Prailiu to see some traditional Sumbanese houses, stone carving and to enjoy the process of how the local people weave their traditional cloth called “Ikat”. You can also try the Ikat on to feel like a real Sumbanese. After visiting this unique village, we will head to the beach called Walakiri, a white sandy beach where you can watch the sunset coming through the shadows of the mangroves that grow in the seaside. Enjoy the sunset, rest and then you return to our hotel.

DAY 2:  MELOLO – PAU  RENDE – MAUHAU

Breakfast and get ready to go explore another traditional village in Sumba. This time we will have a 2 hours drive to the South to the area of Melolo to see Pau and Rende village. As usual, the 2 hours road trip we make in Sumba, you will witness the simple and basic way of living, the views and amazing landscape.  In the village of Rende we can still witness the big megalithic tombs and the traditional houses which the walls which are made of buffalo leather. After visiting this unique village, we will go to Mount Mauhau to watch the spectacular sunset with a view of a Sumba landscape. Head back to hotel to refresh and get ready for another adventure.

DAY 3: VILLAGE PRAILIANG – KAMBERA/LONDA LIMA – SAVANNAH WAIRINDING

After a simple breakfast at the hotel, today we will continue our journey in Sumba. We will go to village Prailiang, a traditional village in east of Sumba, which was built on a rocky hilltop to keep out of sight from coastal slave traders back in the day. The village is built in two rows and the houses have the traditional Sumbanese rooftops.Spend some time to walk around the village and communicate with the locals who still live in the village while enjoying stunning local houses and nice woodcarving alongside with their beautiful and shy smile.  Continuing our trip to Savannah of Wairinding, on the way we will make a short stop in Puru Kambera Beach, one of the most beautiful beach in East Sumba where we can enjoy to swim and sunbath while having a picnic lunch. Afterwards, proceed to visit the savannah of Wairinding known by the local as Bukit Warinding where we can enjoy the unlimited greenery of the hills, where we can look as far as the eye can see. After that go back to hotel to rest.

DAY 4: WAINGAPU – PASUNGA – WAIKABUBAK

After breakfast we are going to make the trip to West-Sumba to Waikabubak with a short stop in Central-Sumba where we will visit Pasunga village in the Anakalang district, just 20 kilometers east from Waikabubak. We can find lots of tombs throughout the traditional village with one particular tomb that stands out from the rest of the tombs.

Continue the drive to Waikabubak where you will stay overnight. If you drive straight from Waingapu to Waikabubak it will approximately take 3 hours, but because we stop at Pasunga village this will take a little longer.

DAY 5: LA POPU WATERFALL – PRAIJING VILLAGE

Today we will start our trip to visit the La Popu waterfall. The waterfall La Popu is a natural waterfall that is located in Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park, this waterfall consists plenty of steepy slopes. The slopes rise from the sea reaching height of 600 meters. Unlike the other waterfall in Sumba, La popu is very famous and often visited by the locals because the location is not hard to reach.

Our trip continues to the village Praijing, a traditional village uphill surrounded by lots of greenery. This is one of the few villages where we can actually have a beautiful overview of the entire village and draw an idea how the village is conducted.  Take some time to walk around the village; the elders occupy most of the houses and kids are always around to share their smiles. Don’t forget to share candies!

DAY 6: LAMBOYA – WAIGALI – BEACH KEREWEI – MAROSI

After breakfast, we will start the trip to visit one of the many nice villages in the Lamboya & Wanokaka district called the village of Waigali. Waigali is one of the oldest villages still populated in Sumba, located on top of a hill which gives you a spectacular view.

From Waigali we are heading to Kerewei Beach, on the way we can see numerous of rice fields, palm plantations, sloping hills, river valleys and sweeping bays. You can also visit the Pasola-fields in the south as they are a stage to perform on for the Pasola-warriors in February and March each year. Arriving in Kerewai Beach, we can enjoy, have a moment to relax while enjoying a fresh coconut and regain enough energy for the following activities. Feel free to head to the hidden beach behind the hills with the companionship of the local kids. The tour ends this day with a spectacular sunset at Marosi Beach where you can have a night swim while watching sunset at the one of the nicest beaches in Sumba.

DAY 7: NATIONAL PARK OF MANUPEU – MATAYANGU

Waking up with the expectation that you are going to live an adventure today. After breakfast, we will head to the National park of Manupeu, naturally set for a great place to hike and enjoy the nature. The environment is constantly changing because of the climate that changes every day. A short walk in this national park is definitely one of the greatest adventures Sumba can offer. At the end of the trek, we will be greeted by the splash coming from a waterfall of Matanyangu, a 75 meters high waterfall which is emitting its water out of a cave. During rainy season, its water also comes from the river apart from the cave on top of it with a height reaching approximately 130 meters from the base of the waterfall. Expect to have a good walk around 2-3 hours back and forth.

DAY 8: WAIKABUBAK – RATENGGARO – WEEKURI LAKE – WAITABULA

After breakfast we will visit the traditional village Ratenggaro in Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high rooftops houses (actually the highest rooftops in whole Sumba) made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. On the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their field to work and only leave the elders and child in the village.

5 minutes ride from this village we can also enjoy a view over the ocean. Locals normally walk their horses and cows to the area so be sure to have the camera ready for the shots.

From Ratenggarro we will head to Weekuri Lake, a crystal clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and to relax. Spend some time in the lake for taking a short (or long) dip. Do not miss to walk around the rocks and reef where you can also see the Oceans from one side. We are not going back to Waikabubak but we are going to Waitabula which is located a little north from Waikabubak and there we will conclude the day and you can spend the night in the hotel.

DAY 9: BEACH BWANNA – BEACH WATUMALANDONG – BEACH PERO

After breakfast we will visit the traditional village Ratenggaro in Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high rooftops houses (actually the highest rooftops in whole Sumba) made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. DAY 9: WAITABULA AIRPORT

Breakfast at hotel and free time until we have to go to the airport to catch the flight. Our driver and guide will be ready at the lobby of the hotel at the appointed time to escort us to the airport to catch the flight to our next destination.
