Day 2: Ratenggaro Village โ Weekuri Lake โ Mandorak Beach
After breakfast, we will head to the village of Ratenggaro in the Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high-roofed houses (actually the highest rooftops in all of Sumba), made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. During the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their fields to work and only leave the elders and children in the village. Then we are going to Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and relax. Spend some time in the lake for a short (or long) dip. Do not miss walking around the rocks and reef, where you can also see the ocean from one side. Next to the Weekuri Lake we will find Mandorak Beach, guarded with 2 huge rock ridges pointing to the middle and crystal-clear water. Then we back to your resort.

Today, we will make a visit to Bondo Kapumbu village in the Karuni area โ South West Sumba, where you will meet the locals, learn about their culture, and see traditional Sumbanese houses. Not far from the village, there is a hidden beach โ Katewel beach, where you can find the local farmers making salt in a traditional way. Then we go to the museum of Rumah Budaya Sumba (Sumbaโs cultural center), but before that, we go to a local restaurant for lunch. It was built in the style of a traditional Sumbanese house, and the surrounding grounds are dotted with Marapu stone carvings. Among other artifacts, the collection includes ikat, stone and wood carvings, traditional jewelry, and a handful of everyday items you can find here. After the visit, we go back to your resort.
