Festival Pasola Kodi (4D/3N)
Day 1: Arrive In Tambolaka – Ratenggaro Village – Weekuri Lake – Mandorak Beach
Upon arrival at the airport of Tambolaka in Waitabula, meet and greet with the guide, and we will begin the journey. First we will have lunch in a local restaurant, then we will drive for 1 hour to visit the traditional village of Ratenggaro in the Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high-roofed houses (actually the highest rooftops in all of Sumba), made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. During the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their fields to work and only leave the elders and children in the village. Next, we will make a visit to Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and relax. Spend some time in the lake for a short (or long) dip. Do not miss walking around the rocks and reef, where you can also see the ocean from one side. Mandorak Beach is located next to Weekuri Lake and is protected by two massive rock ridges pointing toward the center and crystal-clear water. After that, we go to the hotel.

After breakfast and check-out, we'll head back to the Kodi area to see the Pasola Festival. Sumba is pretty much known for its Pasola festival, where horsemen from two opposing groups battle with spears. This festival is held once a year during February and March in the regencies of South West Sumba and West Sumba. The schedule of Pasola is determined by the priest, or Rato, in Sumba, and it is held on a good day to thank the ancestors for their lives and to ask for fertility for the land. Lunch boxes will be provided. The Pasola will finish about 12–1 pm, and we will continue to drive back to the city and have lunch.
Then we continued our journey to West Sumba by visiting Waikacura, where you can take a short hike through the rice fields. Locals may be found doing farmer activities, and there is a beautiful view of the river and a small waterfall at the end of the trek. Next to Praijing Village, a traditional village uphill surrounded by lots of greenery This is one of the few villages where we can actually get a beautiful overview of the entire village and get an idea of how the village is conducted. Take some time to walk around the village; the elders occupy most of the houses, and kids are always around to share their smiles. Then we go to the hotel.
