Birdwatching Adventure: Explore Sumba Island’s Biodiversity (5D/4N)
Apart from the breathtaking savannah, picturesque beaches, and historic villages featuring megalithic tombs, Sumba Island is renowned for its incredible bird species. Our knowledgeable birdwatching guides are well-versed in identifying the unique and magnificent birds that inhabit the island, and they will take you to the optimal spots to observe them. During your exploration of the jungle, you will be able to observe several endemic bird species, including the Sumba Myzomela, Sunbird, Greater Sumba Boobok, Green Pigeon, and numerous others. Get ready to witness a diverse range of colorful and unique birds, some of which are found nowhere else in the world!
Day 1: Arrival to Waingapu – Birding in Lewa – Tanah Daru Forest
Upon your arrival at the Waingapu airport in East Sumba, our guide will greet and meet you, and your journey will begin. Following lunch at a local restaurant, we will drive to Lewa, where we will commence our birdwatching adventure. You will check into your homestay in Lewa before we head to the Manupeu Tanah Daru Forest for birdwatching, where we will search for birds such as the Ashy White-eye, Sumba Myzomela, Sumba Sunbird, and more. In addition, we will explore the Langgaliru Forest and Lewa Forest at night to spot nocturnal bird species such as the Sumba Owl (Little Sumba Hawk-owl) and Greater Sumba Boobok. After dinner at around 9pm, we will return to the homestay.

Day 2: Birding Trip Lewa – Billa
We will commence the morning birdwatching at 5:30 am after an early wake-up call. After checking out, we will head to the Wundut Forest and Langgaliru Forest to spot several bird species such as the yellow-spectacled White-eye, Wallacean drongo, Little cuckoo-dove, Red-naped fruit-dove, Rainbow lorikeet, Brown-throated sunbird, and Black-naped Fruit-dove. A breakfast box will be provided for the trip. Our next destination will be Kondamara Lake, where we can observe several bird species including cattle egret, grey heron, purple heron, great egret, Little egret, Javan pond-heron, and Little pied cormorant. After returning to the homestay for lunch and checking out, we will travel to the Billa forest to seek out the Sumba Hornbill, Tenggara Paradise-flycatcher, Thick-billed flowerpecker, and others. In the evening, we will head to the resort in Billa for dinner.

Day 3: Birding in Billa
We will begin our morning birdwatching adventure at 5:30 am, starting at a different site in the Billa forest to seek out the Sumba Brown FC, Cinnamon Banded Kingfisher, Sumba Myzomela, Sumba Flowerpecker, Sumba Sunbird, Helmeted Friarbird, and Yellow-spectacled White-eye. A breakfast box will be provided for the trip. After breakfast, we will continue our birdwatching excursion and search for the Sumba Green Pigeon, Rusty-breasted whistler, Sumba Pitta, Indonesian Honey-eater, and other bird species. We will return to the resort for lunch and take some rest. At around 2:30 pm, we will head back into the forest to spot the Spectacled monarch, Broad-billed flycatcher, Arafura Fantail, Mee's Nightjar, Greater Sumba Boobok, and more. In the evening, we will return to the resort for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Birding In Billa – Yumbu – Waingapu
We will wake up early to start our morning birdwatching at 5:30 am. We will visit another location in the Billa forest to search for the Tenggara Flowerpecker, Tenggara Paradise Flycatcher, Sumba Jungle Flycatcher, Chestnut-backed thrush, Sumba Flycatcher, Arafura Fantail, and Spectacled Monarch. A breakfast box will be provided for the trip. Afterwards, we will return to the resort to pack and prepare for our next birdwatching excursion in Waingapu, Yumbu. In Yumbu, we will search for the Sumba Button-Quail. A lunch box will be provided. At night, after dinner at a local restaurant, we will go to your hotel in Waingapu.

Day 5: Departure From Waingapu Airport
After breakfast, the driver from the hotel will pick you up and accompany you to Waingapu airport, depending on your flight schedule.
